A charity taking a stand against suicide is striving to make everyone in Maidenhead aware of its services and support through a new partnership with Maidenhead United.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) had partnered with the football club to become its front of shirt sponsor for the 2023/24 season.

The sponsorship has been made possible by the financial support of several key partners who all believe that starting a conversation about the issue of suicide is fundamentally important to bringing down the number of deaths by suicide and improving the quality of life for those that are suffering.

Furthermore, the partnership has been made possible thanks to a creative commercial deal between the Magpies and 11 local businesses, including the Maidenhead Advertiser, who have united to fund CALM’s sponsorship.

As stated on its website, the charity stands together with everyone who is struggling in life, no matter who they are, where they are from or what they are going through.

They do it through their life-saving services, national campaigns, and by building community networks of support.

From advice on their website about issues people might be facing, through to free confidential chats with their helpline staff, online or on the phone, they are there for anyone who’s struggling, every single day of the year.

Speaking to the Advertiser this week, Luis Mackness, partnerships manager at CALM said: “Nothing brings more people together than watching their local football team so being able to have the charity present at Maidenhead United is great.

“Our ambition is to make everyone in Maidenhead aware of CALM, and the partnership with the football club will help with this hugely.

“Football is this massive, cultural lens that we’re trying to be seen through. Hopefully the people that dislike football will be interested in the partnership and want to find out more about the charity. We want to make sure everyone in this part of Berkshire knows there is support available, knows there is hope and people in their area working hard that can make them feel better.”

In addition to CALM, men in the area struggling with their mental health or looking to get something off their chest can find support at the Maidenhead Men’s Group.
