Cookham Dean village fete taking place tomorrow

11:53AM, Friday 15 September 2023

The Cookham Dean village fete is set to take place this Saturday (September 16) featuring a range of activities to celebrate the day.

Organisations in the Cookham Dean area will be running events such as a barbeque hosted by the cricket club and tea and cakes provided by Elizabeth House.

A flower and produce show will also be held in the village hall from 9am-11am, with prizes awarded for categories including the heaviest onion, top vase – and for children, the largest sunflower.

Chair of the fete committee, Pam Forrester, said: “We’re trying to involve as many organisations as possible to help local people.

“It’s a fun day out to get really connected to the community and it’s for all ages.”

The fete brings together a number of groups based in Cookham Dean with proceeds going back into charities and the community.

In previous years the event has raised over £5,000 for charities including the NSPCC, who will be running this year’s tombola, Maidenhead Foodshare, and 1st Cookham Scout group, who will be providing a gazebo.

There will be a competitive dog show on the village green, with owners and their furry friends invited to enter in categories such as the waggiest tail.

“It’s a fun show to involve some of the younger handlers, we’ll turn up on the day and see what happens,” said Pam.

Visitors can also expect live music from the Cookham Cluckers Ukulele Band, led by John Hamilton, who will be performing tunes to ‘get the crowd going’.

Pam added: “There’s something for everybody, come meet old friends and make some new ones.”

For the duration of the main events from one to five pm, Church Road will be closed between Popes Lane and the War Memorial.
