Slough Town will face Salisbury away in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup (Saturday, September 30) having beaten Southern League Premier Division South side Hayes & Yeading United at the SkyEx Community Stadium on Saturday.

A brace from Nathan Minhas proved to be enough for the Rebels to progress on this occasion, with player manager Scott Davies delighted with the forward’s application in the absence of George Alexander and Dominic Hutchinson.

The home side’s stopper Jacob Adams was called into action early on as Jeanmal Prosper, Johnny Goddard(above), and Matt Lench found the time and the space to shoot.

The woodwork was rattled approaching the half hour mark with Minhas responsible as he got his foot onto Lench’s low cross from the right.

suppor旅行的快乐t, Slough kept the pressure on and after a Lench free kick, defender Dan Bayliss diverted the ball back across goal for Prosper who saw his header tipped over by Adams.

Hayes thought they had broken the deadlock in the 37th minute as Sam Ashton got the ball over the line, following some great work from Mauro Vilhete, but the striker was judged to be offside.

The breakthrough eventually arrived in the first half’s dying embers and it was the Rebels who were seen celebrating as after David Ogbonna struck the woodwork, the ball was picked up by Goddard who set Minhas up for a lethal low shot into the bottom corner.

Chances were at a premium in the second half with Vilhete shooting over the bar and Jamie Hanlon dragging an effort wide from inside the area.

Victory for Slough was secured in the 82nd minute as Minhas nodded the ball into Adams’ net with ease, superbly assisted once again by Goddard.

“I am delighted we have got through,” Davies said to Connor McNeish at full-time. “When I woke up this morning, I knew that if we’d be bang on it, we’d have a good chance of winning the game.

“I thought we started the game really well. In the first half, we had four or five glorious chances that, probably, on another day we’d have needed to put away. Fortunately, Nathan scored and that took the pressure off a little bit.

“In the second half, they threw bodies forward. They went 4-2-4 and we had to deal with some pressure. On the counter-attack I felt we got in some really good positions, some really good areas and just needed to be a little bit neater with the final ball. Overall, it was a great day. I can’t be anything but happy.

“I am delighted that Nathan scored two goals and I thought Johnny’s assist for the second was superb. Johnny has got quality in abundance, and we need to get the ball to him as much as we can because he’s a little magician.

“I have loved watching Johnny play for years for opposite teams. Now we have got him as part of our team, it’s brilliant. I don’t think we were amazing today by any means but I thought we were effective in what we did. I felt really comfortable and I think we limited them to long range efforts.”

On Alexander and Hutchinson’s omissions, Davies added: “Bromley said on Monday that George was able to play but then pulled the plug on it on Tuesday. Listen, we understand they have got to protect their own players.

“Wealdstone were quite open with us from the beginning and said that Dom wasn’t going to be allowed to play in the FA Cup. To be honest, having him for our league campaign could be more important than the handful of games we play in the FA Cup.”
