1978:Two youngsters raised £20 for the RNLI by opening up their very own ‘zoo’ – in a garage in Maidenhead.

动物园包括罂粟和雪兔子,磨练y and Suky the guinea pigs, Dutch the labrador, Splisher and Splasher (two fish) and Peanuts the hamster.

The zoo was the idea of Robert Hammond (12) and Mark Sweeney (eight).

1983:Sunshine and soot mixed perfectly at Knowl Hill to make the steam rally a steaming success.

Thousands of people stepped back in history to watch the giant relics of bygone eras.

1988:Television gardening expert Alan Titchmarsh dropped in at the Barley Mow in Cox Green to congratulate licensees John and Valerie Collis on the colourful floral display outside the pub.

He presented them with a framed diploma awarded to just 10 Watney Truman public houses.

1988:The holiday activities programme for Cookham children was in full swing.

Children took part in a calligraphy course, learned how to press flowers, decorated cakes and were even taught vital first aid skills.

Other established favourites included swimming, cycling courses and cookery.

1998:Hurley Regatta returned with a dress code that was a little more casual than nearby Marlow Regatta – and so were the races.

Events included the bath race, in which four people sat in two baths strapped together and paddled a 200 yard course down the Thames.

The regatta also included dragon boat and raft races.

1998:The playground favourite hide and seek was given an educational twist for youngsters who visited Braywick Nature Centre.

Staff entertained children with a new version of the game during Camouflage Day, which highlighted nature’s way of blending animals into their backgrounds.

Youngsters were asked to find objects hidden in the centre’s park.
