Rebels’ goalless draw with Terras extends unbeaten streak to seven games

尽管他们会喜欢赢,Slough小镇were able to maintain an impressive run of form with a goalless draw against Weymouth on Saturday afternoon.

In this National League South clash at Arbour Park, the Rebels had the lion’s share of possession and chances but had to settle for a point with the side now unbeaten in all competitions since Saturday, September 2.

For the Terras, this was their third match without a win with the side remaining 22nd in the league while Scott Davies’ men sit two places higher.

Speaking at full-time, Davies said: “That draw feels like a defeat. The lads in there are down in the dumps and that shows you how far we’ve come. We’ve got a point and kept a clean sheet, that’s positive, but we wanted the win today.

“I don’t know what the stats were, but I think they had one shot on target all game. It looked like we had nine or 10 shots. It’s one of those days where we needed to have found a little bit more quality in the final third.”

Young forward George Alexander registered the first effort for Slough Town in the third minute, chesting the ball fiercely into Gerrard Benfield from Dom Hutchinson’s cross before the linesman raised his flag.

Another chance for the hosts surfaced 10 minutes later as Nathan Minhas was afforded the time and space to crack off a shot which disappointedly went wide.

The Weymouth defence did well to scramble the ball off the line in the 21st minute before Minhas was seen screaming for a spot kick, claiming that Anthony Cheshire had handled the ball.

Dan Bayliss came to the rescue to halt a Terras counter-attack before the half hour mark and Josh Jackman fired wide from distance next as the first half ended at high speed.

Much like how the game started, Alexander was first to strike after the interval as he set himself up nicely with some juggling of the ball before thumping it off target.

Not too long after, a promising attack from Slough ended when Hutchinson rifled the ball into a defender before Temi Eweka denied Dan Roberts a chance to test Rohan Luthra down the other end.

The best chance of the afternoon arguably arose in the 61st minute when a mix up at the back between Jordon Thompson and Benfield allowed Minhas to seize possession, and the number nine chose to lay off Alexander whose effort was far too tame to crash the back of the net.

苯菲尔必须迅速摆脱这一事件Hutchinson let fly from a challenging angle, the Terras’ ‘keeper palming the cross/shot over the woodwork.

Captain Tom Bearwish found room to shoot in the 80th minute, with Luthra equal to the effort, before Hutchinson sent the ball dangerously into the box again with no man in amber and blue able to get on the end of it.

Inside the six added minutes referee Matt Jackson allocated, it was all Slough and Weymouth resorted to packing their area with players to ensure honours were even at the final whistle.

Next up for Slough Town is their FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie with Ebbsfleet United (Saturday, October 14).
