Slough central defender Temi Eweka has explained the reasoning behind his move from Maidenhead United to the Rebels on a permanent deal last month.

After a successful loan spell at Arbour Park last season, Eweka returned to Maidenhead at the back end of last season and was expected to fight for his place in Alan Devonshire's first team.

However, first team starts for the Magpies have been limited and Eweka believes he needs to be playing week in and week out to fulfil his potential in the game.

因此,反抗s are set to benefit from a player who helped them turn around a concerning run of form last season. He's now in the process of doing the same again, having formed a solid-looking centre half partnership with Dan Bayliss. After a couple of shaky team displays, the Rebels have secured back-to-back league wins over Dartford (2-1) and Aveley (2-0) to move out of the relegation zone.

“Yeah, I’m happy, really happy,” he said after Saturday's 2-0 home win.

“I have loved being here previously. The boys at Maidenhead treated me well but me and Dev (Alan Devonshire) came to a decision that at the age I’m at, to go higher or to sustain my career, I have to be playing.

“I had a few options on the table but coming back to Slough where I’m comfortable and I know Scotty, and being around the same boys as last year was an easy decision really. It’s just about playing 40 games, getting my head down and learning still. I am still young and still want to progress so it’s just about doing the right things and I think Slough is the best platform to do that.”

He added: “As a footballer you want to be loved wherever you go. That’s when you play your best football.

“Coming back to Slough, I did put the pressure on myself to perform like I did last season.

“When you set high expectations yourself, everyone expects you to be there. Everyone wants you to be the same Temi as last year and that’s what I wanted to do. I did over 15 games last year and I want to do over 40 this year. I want to be consistent in most of those and we will see what happens at the end of the season.”

Slough回到行动在足总杯坐urday when they travel to Southern League Premier side Hayes & Yeading for a second qualifying round clash.

Eweka said: “We have got a cup match; we play Hayes & Yeading in the FA Cup.

“That will be a good game. I played against them in pre-season for Maidenhead. Just because they are a league below, we are not going to go there and disrespect them. It’s football at the end of the day, 11 men against 11 men. If they want it more than you, they’re going to beat you.”
