Slough Town 0, Chelmsford 0

Slough Town were unfortunate not to take at least one of their chances in this afternoon’s stalemate with Chelmsford at Arbour Park.

The Rebels couldn’t quite hit the heights of Tuesday’s impressive FA Cup win over Ebbsfleet United, however, they’ll feel they did enough to have won the game with the chances they created.

The Rebels weren’t at their best in the first half, despite Johnny Goddard seeing a snapshot saved in the 27th minute, but Scott Davies’ team stepped up their efforts in the second period and saw two or three gilt edged chances go begging.

The first of those chances fell to George Alexander who was released by Matt Lench in the 50th minute, but his low effort was well saved. Alexander was denied again at close quarters by Oluwwayemi after Josh Jackman’s strike from the edge of the area was deflected to him.

In the 69th minute, Temi Eweka met Lench’s free-kick and saw his head glance off the top of the crossbar.

However, Chelmsford also had a head in hands moment as Caruthers’ close-range curler was clawed away by Rohan Luthra in the 52nd minute.

The Rebels were handed a big advantage when Chelmsford’s Luke Jenkins saw red for a cynical challenge on David Ogbonna in the 75th minute. The hosts created a number of good moments in the final 15 minutes but weren’t able to find the right final pass or shot to give themselves the advantage, while man of the match Ogbonna was a constant threat down the right wing.

Despite being a man down, Chelmsford also created one last big chance, when Freddie Hockey was played through on Luthra’s goal in the 87th minute, however, he couldn’t keep his composure and fired wide.

There was still time for the referee to even up the dismissals with Eweka seeing red late on for a shove on a Chelmsford player.

The draw leaves Slough in the bottom four, two points from safety, ahead of Tuesday’s trip to St Albans City.

Ashford Town 1, Marlow 3

First half goals from Dawid Rogalski and Rhys Harper put promotion chasing Marlow on course for a well-deserved 3-1 win at Ashford Town this afternoon.

The Blues weren’t in action last weekend as rivals stole a march on them for automatic and play-off places, however, Mark Bartley’s side were quickly back in the groove thanks to Rogalski’s strike in the eighth minute that settled nerves.

The visitors then scored again on the stroke of half-time through Harper to give their hosts a mountain to climb in the second half.

Jack Arnold pulled a goal back in the 76th minute but Benjamin Mulley sealed the deal with a third goal for the visitors in the 85th minute.

It cemented a third league win in a row for the Blues, one which keeps them fifth in the table, six points behind leaders Raynes Park Vale with two games in hand.

Bartley’s side will look to back up this win at the Metropolitan Police on Tuesday evening.

Afterwards Bartley posted: “Professional job today from the boys, picking up 3pts on the road. The conditions and the pitch made for hard going, but there was no debating we were the better side overall. Good days work, now on to Tuesday.”

Burnham 3, AFC Croydon Athletic 2

Leo Decabo scored twice as Burnham bounced back from last weekend’s defeat at Flackwell Heath to knock AFC Croydon Athletic out of the FA Vase.

The Blues produced an impressive display at the 1878 Stadium, their first match of note there in several weeks.

Decabo got them off to a great start when he swung home a free kick from just outside the area in the sixth minute.

The visitors – who are funded by the rapper Stormzy and Wilfried Zaha – levelled matters before half-time from the penalty spot. But the see-saw game continued with Samad Kazi putting the Blues back ahead just after the restart. Croydon equalised again from another penalty kick. But the Blues finally got a decision their way, when the hosts were awarded a penalty kick and Decabo kept his cool to fire his side through to the next round of the competition.

Burnham are back in action on Tuesday when they visit league rivals Holyport in the second round of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup.

AFC Winkfield 0, Windsor & Eton 3

Windsor & Eton weren’t at their best in this afternoon’s clash with AFC Winkfield – to their own manager’s admission.

However, they managed to get the job done thanks to goals from James Clark in the 26th minute, Isaiah Chase-Kelly in the 73rd minute and Clark again in the 77th.

Matty Angell’s side sit top of the Thames Valley Premier Division, two points clear of Westwood Wanderers.
