A school in Cookham Dean has delivered donations of non-perishable food items and other goods to Maidenhead Foodshare this week.

Herries Preparatory School in Dean Lane held its Harvest Festival on Monday and parents sent in a host of donations.

Pupils in year six created a display in the school hall and led a whole school assembly which saw each year group sing a harvest song and poems were also read by older pupils.

The year six cohort also explained to youngsters aged between two and 11 what the donations were for.

Joanna Voice, head of maths and drama at Herries Preparatory School, said: “Foodshare's mission is simple - to provide essential food provisions to those who are unable to feed themselves and their families properly.

“They understand that food insecurity can be a result of a variety of reasons, and they are there to offer support in any way they can.”

The school has supported Maidenhead Foodshare for the last seven years and on Tuesday morning year six

visited the charity’s premises in the town centre to deliver at least 10 boxes and 12 shopping bags full of donations.

Donations included tins of vegetables, soup, fruit and rice pudding, alongside packets of biscuits, UHT milk, breakfast cereal, instant mash potato, bottles of squash, peanut butter and jam.

Toiletries including shower gel, toothpaste and toilet rolls also were also donated.

While at the premises, year six pupils were shown how the Foodshare operates.

Mrs Voice added: “Foodshare is a really good charity for us to support at Herries as there are many people in the Maidenhead area who sadly live in poverty.

“As a school, we will continue to support this charity and are grateful to the volunteers for the fantastic work that they do.”
