Strong performances lift WSEH AC into podium position in National Athletics League match

There were several strong performances as Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) Athletics Club finished third at the National Athletics League match in Birmingham at the weekend.

The club picked up enough points for a podium position behind Harrow in second and event winners Thames Valley Harriers, with the likes of Sheffield AC and Nottingham AC behind them.

British 400m champion Alex Haydock-Wilson finished second in the 100m in 10.86secs, with Ayoola Babalola third in the women’s race in 13.25secs.

Moving closer to his more favoured event, Haydock-Wilson went one better in the 200m, winning it in 21.27 with Geovannie third in the B race in 21.88. There was another third place for Ayoola Babalola in the women’s race.

With Haydock-Wilson not competing over 400m, WSEH’s best effort came from Orla Brennan who came third in the women’s race in 57.53. Charlotte Dewar came third in the 800m in 2mins,12.7.

Also topping the podium was WSEH’s Adam Moore in the 1,500m, a race he won in 4.01.37.

The women’s 3,000m was also marked by good WSEH performances, with Charlotte Firth coming third in the A race and Amber Clarke winning the B string.

Jacob Paul finished second in the 400m hurdles in 51.37 with Damari Gumbs coming third in the B race in 52.82.

In the field, WSEH athletes were unbeatable in the women’s long jump with victories for Alice Hopkins and Suzanne Palmer in the A and B events with jumps of 5.85m and 5.47m respectively. The club continued to jump with success in the men’s triple jump with Daniel Clarke (15.65m) and Moyin Eyiowawi (13.45m) finished second and third.

The club were also to the fore of the discus with Phoebe Dawson finishing second with 52.83m and Amy Holder winning the B event with 50.69m. Brothers Jake and Luke Norris were again in form in the Hammer, with British champion Jake winning the A event and Luke coming third in the B event.

Hannah Johnson came third in the A string Javelin with 38.32m and Jardae Hodge-Spencer was second in the B event with 36.82m. The best of the club’s relay events was a second-place finish in the women’s 4x400m, the team finishing in 3.49.50 while there was also a third place for the women in the 4x100m (47.97).
