Remy Clerima is hopeful Maidenhead United’s triumph over Eastleigh at the weekend will be the start of a winning streak for the club in the National League.

Clerima scored the first goal as the Magpies snapped a 13-game winless run in the league with a well-deserved victory at York Road on Saturday afternoon.

Following a scramble from a corner, the ball found the French defender inside the Spitfires’ box and he made no mistake slotting it in past Joe McDonnell.

Unsurprisingly, the goal was met with rapturous applause from the Magpies’ faithful who would go on to see their team net twice more and secure their first league win since August 19.

Speaking on the long overdue three points to the Advertiser’s Daniel Darlington, Clerima said: “It feels amazing. As you can tell, everyone was buzzing at the end of the game, celebrating with the fans aswell.

“The issue in the last few games has been us playing well, getting in front in games but then ending up losing. Today, we learnt from it. We went 2-0 up and said, ‘we can’t do this again’.

“We played really well so we need to keep that up and I hope we can go on a run now and climb the table.”

Clerima added: “The third goal definitely killed everything [for Eastleigh]. We struggled in the second half, but we stuck together and dug in.

“Conceding two goals is fine when you manage come out with three points. We will build from here. We’ve been on a bad run, but we will start winning again, and we will do it at home in front of the fans too.

“Next week, we play in the FA Cup. We will have a different mindset for that but then we go back to the league and play Halifax, and we will look to win again.”

Maidenhead United sit 21st while FC Halifax Town occupy sixth place in the National League ahead of their clash at York Road on Saturday, November 11.
