Marlow's Christmas lights switch-on ceremony details revealed

Author and screenwriter, Robert Thorogood, is set to turn on the lights this year

Details of Marlow’s Christmas lights switch-on event have been announced as the town looks to welcome in the festive season.

Flicking the switch on November 23 is writer and Marlow resident, Robert Thorogood, mastermind of the hit BBC murder mystery TV show ‘Death in Paradise’.

‘Snow’ will begin to fall along High Street around 6pm ahead of the lights being switched on at 6:30pm from an open-top bus outside the Chequers Pub.

To top off the Christmas cheer, stilt walkers dressed as Mother Christmas, Nutcracker soldiers and a snow queen will strut the streets to the sound of carols and other festive music.

Robert said: "I’m so excited to be turning on Marlow’s Christmas lights. 'The Switch On’ is one of the best nights of the year as there’s always such a buzz in the town.

“I’m a bit overwhelmed, if I’m honest, that I’ve been asked. What an honour."

Among other titles, Robert is also the author behind the Marlow themed murder mystery books, The Marlow Murder Club and Death Comes to Marlow.

Marlow town mayor, David Brown, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have Robert Thorogood as our special guest to illuminate our beautiful town.

“His passion for Marlow is evident to all. Who knows, our event might just become the inspiration for his next best-seller."

Marlow's High Street will be closed to traffic between 4:30pm and 7pm on the day.
