Hope special status will help save The Boundary Arms pub

A major step has been taken in protecting the future of The Boundary Arms pub after the venue was listed as an Asset of Community Value (ACV).

Community members launched a campaign in May to save the Pinkneys Green watering hole from being demolished and replaced with housing.

Plans to redevelop the site have since been withdrawn but question marks remain over the venue’s future.

The campaign group, The Friends of The Boundary Arms, confirmed this week that Windsor and Maidenhead council has granted ACV status to the Pinkneys Road pub.

This means that if the owner lists the pub for sale on the open market, the group will be offered the chance to bid for the venue so it can be preserved for the benefit of the community.

Mark Newcombe, who played an instrumental role in saving popular community pub, The Craufurd Arms, has joined the campaign to try and protect the venue’s future.

He told the Advertiser: “This (Asset of Community Value status) shows the community want to save the pub.

“It may well be the owner decides to re-open it as a pub and that’s a win-win situation, everyone’s happy then.”

Mark said The Friends of The Boundary Arms group is exploring its options, including the possibility of buying the pub and bringing it under community ownership.

Residents are being urged to fill in a survey to help campaigners understand what should happen to the drinking spot.
