BCF works across Berkshire to raise and distribute funds to charities and community groups in the county.

Latest research by Barnardo’s explored the impact of the cost-of-living crisis on bed poverty and found that more than 204,000 families have witnessed their children’s bedding or bed get damp or mouldy in the last 12 months because they cannot afford to turn the heating on.

Nicola Ross, trustee at The Link Foundation, said: “It is not uncommon for us to hear of five or six siblings sharing one mattress and each year we are providing more and more beds and cots to local disadvantaged children.

“The cost of beds, cots and mattresses has increased massively over the past couple of years, we are now having to raise at least £25,000 per year just to provide these items.

“The funding from Berkshire Community Foundation could not have come at a better time and we are truly grateful for the difference this will have in enabling us to support local children.”

Jon Yates, CEO of Berkshire Community Foundation, said: “At Berkshire Community Foundation, we work to enable vibrant, caring and resilient communities by directing philanthropic funds towards charities that perform vital functions for local people.

“We are delighted to support The Link Foundation in its important work and look forward to the positive impact enabled by this grant.”
