The popular Marlow Bottom Scarecrow Trail returned to the village for a fourth year and saw around 88 registered entries this time around.

Organised by Friends of Burford, on behalf of Burford School and Nursery in Marlow Bottom, the ‘community oriented’ event first launched during the pandemic.

One of the trail organisers, Maria Fernandez said during Covid, there was nothing else to do and the trail was ‘very popular’ with more than 100 entries.

The momentum for the event in the village has not wavered and Maria said: “It’s one week and the scarecrows – people love it – they bring a smile to people’s faces and it’s nice to see people enjoy it.”

She attributed the success of the event to the ‘lovely people’ of Marlow Bottom and ‘the community spirit [being] quite cool’.

“Marlow Bottom is a small area and it works really well,” she added.

Residents and businesses in the area were challenged to create funny and outlandish scarecrows using everyday items and the results, that came in all shapes and sizes, did not disappoint.

All entries were included on a scarecrow trail map, made available by email or from Tin Town Coffee, The Barn Club and Da Luca.

The trail ran during half term beginning on Sunday October 22 and ended on October 29.
