A display of 5,000 poppies knitted and crocheted by Marlow women has made its annual visit to the town centre – alongside 300 new poppies made for people to find and keep.

The 5,000 poppies were made by about 20 people in the Marlow Poppy Display Group over the course of a few years and are proudly brought out each year for Remembrance.

This display is hung on the railings outside All Saints Church and Higginson Park by the Causeway.

Corrine Hinch set up the Marlow Poppies Facebook page in 2019 and has been running the JustGiving page since 2020, to help with fundraising during the pandemic.

It has raised more than £7,900 so far – including donations from those who find a specially made poppy in Marlow High Street.

Throughout the year, Corrine crochets 300 poppies, which she then places in bags with dedications, and arranges around the High Street for people to find, on door handles and similar places.

In some cases, people have taken them and placed them on the graves of relatives who died in the World Wars.

Corrine has been leaving 30 poppies a day since Monday – and will continue for 10 days until next Wednesday, so there are more for people to find each day.

Each one is dedicated to someone from Marlow who never returned from war.

“If you find one, please wear it to honour the person it is dedicated to and for all those who lost their life during conflict,” Corrine said.

Those who find a poppy are encouraged to put some money in a Royal British Legion tin, or donate at JustGiving.com/crowdfunding/Marlow-poppies
