Mobbs-Smith: Weather made our lives difficult against Bracknell

David Mobbs-Smith wasn’t afraid to admit the weather played its part in Maidenhead’s 17-47 loss to Bracknell at the weekend, as the young side struggled to get to grips with their opponents at Braywick Park and fell to their sixth defeat of the season.

In their five defeats prior to Saturday, Maids have routinely run their opponents close but, for various reasons, they were very much second best against the Stags and succumbed to their heaviest loss so far this season.

在全职,雨水鞭打wn – head coach Mobbs-Smith admitted: “I think the weather did affect us today. You can see we’re a small team, we want to move the ball around and it was too wet to do that.

“We had to kick the ball more today and put pressure on them in the breakdown. That made the game a lot more physical, and we lost out in the physical battle today.

“It probably was [our toughest match of the season]. They had the size advantage and they were able to execute their game plan in those conditions.

“There was a stage where we had a lot of the ball and I think the end result should have been closer, we should have finished with 27 points. I suppose we just didn’t score when we really needed to.”

Mobbs-Smith added: “We have got a lot of players in our team that are young. Three quarters of the team have earned less than 20 caps and it’s about seven or eight that have earned less than 10. We are a very young team playing against men in this league.

“Hopefully it stays dry next Saturday as that will help us play our game, but we are going into the wetter time of the year now.”

Marlborough, Maidenhead’s opponents on Saturday, November 4, will be looking to avoid a third consecutive defeat having lost 27-10 to CS Stags most recently.

Vili Hakalo’s men sit eighth in the Regional 1 South Central with three wins and four losses.
