Windsor should have beaten Bracknell by more, says captain Chris Emmett

Had the weather been kinder, and a few key decisions gone their way, Windsor could have chalked up a much more resounding victory over Bracknell 2nds in Saturday's Counties 1 Tribute Southern North clash.

That's the view of captain Chris Emmett who helped Windsor seal their fourth win of the season with a 28-7 away success.

Tries scored by Adam Bailes (two), Luke Budd, and Ben Grant-Adamson earned the visitors a bonus point win which lifted the club to third in the league.

However, speaking after the match, skipper Emmett felt Windsor had left a lot of points out on the field at Lily Hill Park.

“If I am honest, it was a game in which we were very comfortable,” Emmett said of the Bracknell triumph before adding: “We are happy to have grabbed five points, but I felt we could have posted a bigger win.

“We had two tries disallowed which were clearly onside. We’ve seen on the VEO, they were two cross-field kicks which the referee called offside. Our winger was well onside, if not behind the kicker. That was frustrating because that would have been another 14 points on the scoreboard.

“Conditions weren’t great either. We were trying to play some expansive rugby and the weather didn’t favour that, so we missed out on a fair few points there.

“I think what was most pleasing about the weekend was how our front row performed. We had quite a lot of forwards unavailable, so we had a completely changed front row against Bracknell and they did really well.

“It is always good to see the young lads step up. We will be a lot stronger when we play next week.”

Emmett added: “I also want to mention that we had a good win for the second team who played Reading 2s.

“What has been really positive about this season is that we’re actually adding some depth across both teams. Availability has been bit of an issue post-COVID but we seem to be very much well and truly over that.”

Andy Symons’ men will next be in competitive action on Saturday, November 4 when they welcome Rams 3rds to Home Park.
