And it proved worthwhile as Karl Burke's four-year-old ridden by Clifford Lee won the feature race, the Sri Lanka, The Jewel of Asia Handicap which carried a first prize of £15,462.

The 15/8 favourite, who had finished second at Ascot earlier this month, dwelt at the start of the five-furlong sprint, but made good headway and hit the front over a furlong out, passing the post two and a half lengths clear of Punchbowl Flyer.

Jockey Jim Crowley came to Windsor for just one ride, and made it a winning one aboard Solar Aclaim, who went off the 2/9 favourite with just three to beat in the five-furlong Sri Lanka, The Wonder Of Asia EBF Restricted Novice Stakes. The two-year-old trained by Roger Teal at Lambourn was winning for the second time in three starts.

“He's a nice horse. He coped with the ground (heavy) and he'll be better off on better ground,” said Crowley. “He will be a smashing horse next season.”

Archie Watson was another West Berkshire trainer to visit the winner's enclosure at Windsor's final meeting of the year.

He won the Amateur Jockey's Handicap with Brequet Boy (13/2), ridden by his wife, Brodie Hampson. Watson described it as a “great result”, and Brodie had given the horse a "great ride."

Hollie Doyle was another to cross Berkshire from her home, and she won the Amazing Sri Lanka Handicap on 3/1 joint favourite Hakuna Babe, trained by William Jarvis and owned by Emma Banks, the music agent.

The Sri Lanka, The Teardrop Island Handicap was split in two, with Mayz (14/1) taking the first in the hands of Darragh Keenan, with the second division going to Fitzrovia (4/1) with Dougie Costello aboard.
