Taplow man ordered to pay £1000 for failing to identify driver when required

A 42-year-old Taplow man has been sentenced to pay more than £1000 for failing to identify a driver when required.

Damien Trevellion, of Devonshire Gardens, was ordered to pay a £576 fine, a £230 victim surcharge and £200 in costs at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court yesterday (October 26).

At around 4.30pm on April 21, officers observed the driver of a white Volkswagen Crafter van using a mobile phone while driving on London Road, but they were unable to stop the vehicle at the time.

Officers wrote to the van’s registered keeper, Trevellion, asking him to identify the driver but he did not, claiming multiple people use his van.

Magistrates found Trevellion guilty of one count of failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle when required.

He also received six points on his driving record.

Trevellion was charged on July 20.

Investigating officer PC George Ward said: “There is a legal obligation on the owner or registered keeper of a vehicle to give information as to the identity of the driver of a vehicle at the time of an alleged offence, where they have been required to do so by the police.

“Failure to do this could render the individual liable to prosecution, as demonstrated in this case.”
