The first ever Buckinghamshire Oktoberfest took place in Burnham over the weekend with large crowds and a lot of dancing to ‘welcome in the month of October' German-style.

The two-day extravaganza, organised by Barbican Events, was attended by 2000 guests, made-up of Burnham locals and people from all over the south east, many of whom wore Lederhosen and Dirndl costumes to fully enter into the spirit of the festival.

Local and national vendors sold authentic German food and beer and traditional Oompah bands got people up and dancing throughout the Friday and Saturday.

There were additional attractions such as fairground rides and axe throwing.

Kay Shah, one of the organisers, said that the whole village benefitted from the event taking place in Burnham Park.

“The event was a success with over two thousand in attendance.

“Many pubs and restaurants in Burnham were super busy over the weekend due to extra footfall from Oktoberfest.”

Many took to social media to say what a fun and friendly atmosphere there was in the large beer tent, with one person saying it felt like ‘one big party’.

Another stated: “[I’d] 100 per cent recommend it. We had the best time and had non-stop laughter.”

Kay confirmed that after such a successful first event, the Buckinghamshire Oktoberfest will return to Burnham next year.
