Oktoberfest gets underway in Burnham this weekend

Excitement is building for the first ever Buckinghamshire Oktoberfest, which starts this weekend, Friday September 29 and carries on until the afternoon of Sunday, October 1.

After successfully putting on the Hertfordshire Oktoberfest, organisers Barbican Events are raring to go with a fully authentic festival for visitors to Burnham Park.

There will be plenty of German beer, a live ‘Oompah band’, traditional Oktoberfest games plus lots of local talent on the stage and vendors offering a variety of German-inspired dishes and tasty street food delicacies.

There’s even more to keep the crowds going as they swig German beer or locally produced Mad Squirrel ale, with DJs, dancing and axe throwing providing even more entertainment.

The event takes place in a huge ‘beer tent’ on the green at Burnham Park and is on for three days with tickets allocated to specific times.

The Saturday evening session may be sold out but there is still limited ticket availability on the Friday evening event, the Saturday daytime session and the final session on the Sunday.

Dressing-up is encouraged but not obligatory, with those aiming to take part in the full spirit of the event advised to go for traditional Lederhosen and Dirndl attire.

Oktoberfest goers don’t have to be beer-lovers. There’s a variety of ciders, wines and spirits on sale as well and vegan and vegetarian alternatives to the traditional Bratwursts and Currywursts.

Andrew Dempsey, part of the Barbican Events' management, said:

"We are excited to be bringing the Oktoberfest here in South Bucks. Our Saturday evening session is sold out and there is limited availability for the Friday evening and day sessions.

"We have a great line up including a live Oompah band, German beer, Oktoberfest games and a fancy dress competition.

"The support in South Bucks has been great and we look forward to coming back next year."
