Plans for a ‘one of a kind’ six-storey timber office building at the One Maidenhead development have been submitted to the council.

Developer HUB and Norwegian investment company Smedvig are planning to construct the new building, named Trehus, near the corner of Queen Street and King Street.

The office block forms the latest part of the multi-million pound development, formerly known as The Landing, which includes 429 flats and ground floor retail spaces.

由沃Thistleton建筑师设计,办公室做事e building will feature a timber superstructure which will be the first of its kind in Maidenhead and the wider Thames Valley.

The developers behind the scheme say the building will aim to achieve low level energy with the timber structure reducing embodied carbon by 40 per cent compared to a concrete frame.

Victoria Manston, development director of HUB said: “Trehus will be the first building of its kind in this area, and an exciting addition to the work already underway at One Maidenhead to deliver a new world-class development in Maidenhead town centre.

“The use of timber here will result in a building that is both elegant and highly sustainable, in line with HUB’s strategy of reducing embodied carbon across our portfolio.”

Trehus will feature a roof terrace, outdoor seating and rain gardens which are designed to absorb water which runs off patios and roofs.

The office building is aiming to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding rating with its energy efficiency.

Kirsten Haggart, associate director of Waugh Thistleton Architects, described the proposed development as a ‘landmark’ building for the town centre.

Cecilie W. Melbye, CEO of Smedvig Eiendom AS, added: “We have used timber structures with success in Norway and are excited to be bringing forward our first timber structure in the UK.”
