A ‘charming’ event saw Maidenhead's Maharashtrian community celebrate a variety of cultural festivals for the first time at the Maidenhead Methodist Church Community Hall.

Kojagiri Poornima is ‘a cherished tradition’ from the Indian state of Maharashtra. It honours the full moon and the belief that it ushers in prosperity and good fortune.

On Saturday the community embraced this auspicious night, sharing stories, eating festive cuisine and immersing themselves in the culture of Maharashtra.

Likewise, Bhondla, a traditional Maharashtrian festival, revolves around the collective celebration of women and children, who partake in traditional dance.

The community's festivities also featured the spirited Garba and Dandiya dances, where the lively dance moves and the rhythmic beats of Dandiya sticks reverberated through the hall, ‘creating an atmosphere of infectious energy and enthusiasm.’
